Immigration reform has been a political hot topic for quite some time. Both the Conservative and Liberal parties have been mudslinging each other about how the other party's solution simply won't fix the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the American border. We all know what both sides are presenting; it's time to get the facts.
Just How Many Illegal Immigrants Are There?
In order to determine the gravity of this issue, it is important to know how many illegal immigrants are actually living in the United States.
According to Pew Research, the number sits at 11.7 million immigrants:
However, the Department of Homeland Security's most recent estimate states that there are 11.4 million immigrants:

How Do They Get Here
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, illegal immigrants cross the border by both land and sea. However, most of them cross by land. In 2013, 414,397 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the southwest border sectors of the United States. Meanwhile, only 3,162 illegal immigrants were apprehended on the coastal border sectors in that same year.
What Is being Done
Currently, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection patrols the borders of the United States for illegal immigrants. They have over 60,000 employees. Also, the Department of Homeland Security deports immigrants deemed illegal by US immigration laws. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also detains illegal immigrants.
Are Illegal Immigrants Receiving Welfare
Legally, no, but technically yes. A natural born US citizen that is born to illegal immigrants can receive TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). The illegal immigrants may also apply for TANF on their natural born US citizen's behalf. Also, illegal immigrants can legally receive free health care and some non-cash benefits (like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc.) at the discretion of the State. However, they are not allowed to receive any government funded health care. They are allowed to receive Supplemental Security Income, though, if they are deemed a "Qualified Alien."

Can Illegal Immigrants Get Driver's Licenses
Yes. At least 6 states allow illegal immigrants to have driver's licenses. Also, an illegal immigrant may apply for a driver's license if they are under the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program in states that accept DACA as documentation for licensing.
What Are the Laws Regarding Illegal Immigration Deportation
The full Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 is available free of charge here. In short, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services states that, once an illegal alien is found removable, the deportation must be authorized by an immigration judge. No punishment is allowed. Also, the deportation is handled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
What Bills Are Being Presented For Immigration Reform
To get a full list of bills (151 of them, to be exact), either passed or in Congress, pertaining to immigration and immigration reform, visit the govtrack.us webpage. Hhere a few of the major bills that are specifically targeted toward immigration reform.
The first bill is H.R. 4279, or the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Authorization Act. The bill itself is closer to an amendment to the Homeland Security Act of 2002 than a stand-alone bill. It states that there will be a Director of the ICE, who will be chosen by the president and confirmed by the Senate. Also, there will be an Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations which will identify, detain, and remove illegal immigrants.
The second bill is S. 744, or the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. The bill will provide a path of citizenship to most illegal immigrants currently living in the United States, and will allocate billions of dollars for militarization of the southern border of the United States. There will also be hardened deportation and enforcement measures, along with the requirement that companies use E.Verify, which is an Internet program that compares an employee's I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification to Department of Homeland Security data.
The third bill is H.R. 1417, or the Border Security Results Act of 2013. Basically, the bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to submit a report to Congress on the current status of border security. Also, the Department of Homeland Security must submit a strategy (to Congress) for creating situational awareness and control of the busiest border sections within 2 years, and control of the southwest border in 5 years. Also, the Department of Homeland Security must submit another strategy (to Congress) to implement biometric scanners for exits at ports of entry under US-VISIT. The biometric scanners must be compliant to the Enhanced Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2002.

These are the major facts about illegal immigration. For further reading, I would suggest checking out the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement website, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.

Washington, D.C. Is a rich city full of fun things to do. I have gone to the city and stopped by these places. They all offer something fun and educational. Washington D.C. can get a little dangerous, though, so keep your kids close. However, it is not nearly as unsafe as Baltimore.

The National Spy Museum is the foremost museum to learn about the Nation’s deepest depths of trickery and intelligence gathering. Inside are multiple tours and incredible artifacts that make anyone want to be a spy.

The National Air and Space Museum is a great family outing. It showcases the history of air flight from the Wright Brothers to landing a man on the moon. There are many sections with different subjects and beautifully kept aircraft relics for kids aged 9 to 90.

The Smithsonian Museum is a great liberal history museum. It showcases artifacts from many cultures and times in history. It has free admission and is a great place to take kids for a free, yet entertaining, history lesson.

If there ever was a great place to get Chinese food, DC’s Chinatown is that place. Although small (one road), Chinatown has great chinese food and showcases a little Chinese-American culture.

The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC is an excellent place for the fine arts. They host a plethora of shows from operas to musicals and orchestral performances. They also have an upscale restaurant on the roof for those that want the full experience.

Perhaps the staple of Washington, DC is the political scene. The White House is the most guarded house in the world, and it has some of the richest history. They offer tours of some of the lower level rooms that hold the highest historical significance.

The Capitol Building is probably the most famous building in all of Washington, DC. The iconic dome rising high above really demonstrates the majesty of what America is; a place where anybody can make it and enjoy a life of freedom and equality.

The view from atop the Washington Monument is truly breathtaking. Visitors ride in an elevator and peer through one of the two windows at the point. This monument is the tallest building in Washington, DC.

Perhaps the most commonly-appearing memorial in movies and television serials is the Lincoln Memorial. Every easter there is a sunrise church service on its steps. It provides history on the president that freed the slaves.

The Jefferson Monument honors the legacy of one of the framers and drafter of the constitution. This beautiful monument honors the man who helped found this great country of freedom and equality.

Lincoln Memorial
Washington D.C. A Great Place to Visit
By John Paluska November 11,2014
When you step off the plane at Reagan International Airport, the hustle and bustle, business-per-use atmosphere makes itself known. You are in D.C. The Nation’s Capital, and have so much to do.
Washington D.C. has much historical value and importance. In this city, Abraham Lincoln and congress declared all slaves free. In this city, freedom and equality were offered to all. In this city, the United States of America is run, defended, and patriotized.
There are many landmarks that make the Nation’s Capital a wonderful place to visit. From the iconic steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the captivating performances at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C. provides much entertainment and cultural enrichment, and it provides a viewing portal into the past to learn just what the great country of America really is.
There are many museums of differing topics. The National Spy Museum offers a history of espionage throughout time, and the Smithsonian Institute provides a free experience into the world of academic science and history. For an iconic adventure, the Air and Space Museum provides a glorious journey through flight, since its dawn to what it may hold in the future.
Perhaps the most visited, and by far the most historically interesting, building would be the White House. If there ever was a building where more iconic and historically important events occurred, I have yet to find it. This building was the location where the constitution was ratified, where countless presidents have stayed, and numerous meals have taken place. A free tour of the ground floor is offered where tourists can see some of the rooms where the presidents have stayed in the past.
Nearby, the Library of Congress stands. It is filled with every book ever printed in the United States. It also holds many historical records that are freely available to the public. It truly is a great place to learn of the difficulties and tumultuous mountains that our great nation has surpassed and endured.
Washington D.C. is a place of great historical and cultural immersion. There are many free museums and activities for children of all ages. If there ever is a remarkable trip that every member of your family will enjoy, it will be a trip to Washington D.C.

JERUSALEM-An attack on an Israeli synagogue left four dead. Three are dual American-Israeli citizens and the last one is British-Israeli. A fifth person, Canadian citizen Howie Chaim Rotman, was severely injured in the incident. The two attackers were Palestinian and armed with a meat cleaver and a gun. The Police killed the assailants in a shootout. The names of the deceased are Avraham Goldberg, Aryeh Kupinsky, Cary Levine, and Mosheh.
A witness of the event, Yosef Posternak, expressed that there was “blood everywhere.”
President Barack Obama expressed disgust for the attacks when he said "There is and can be no justification for such attacks against innocent civilians, and Benjamin Netanyahu called the attack “a cruel murder of Jews who came to pray.”
The Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas also condemned the attacks. This is the first time he has condemned an attack on Israel since a recent spike of violence. However, he also called for an end to “provocations” by Israel used to incite violence from Palestinians.

This attack is part of a series of Palestinian attacks on Israel that have claimed the lives of ten Israelis. Half of them are American.
