Lincoln Memorial
Washington D.C. A Great Place to Visit
By John Paluska November 11,2014
When you step off the plane at Reagan International Airport, the hustle and bustle, business-per-use atmosphere makes itself known. You are in D.C. The Nation’s Capital, and have so much to do.
Washington D.C. has much historical value and importance. In this city, Abraham Lincoln and congress declared all slaves free. In this city, freedom and equality were offered to all. In this city, the United States of America is run, defended, and patriotized.
There are many landmarks that make the Nation’s Capital a wonderful place to visit. From the iconic steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the captivating performances at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C. provides much entertainment and cultural enrichment, and it provides a viewing portal into the past to learn just what the great country of America really is.
There are many museums of differing topics. The National Spy Museum offers a history of espionage throughout time, and the Smithsonian Institute provides a free experience into the world of academic science and history. For an iconic adventure, the Air and Space Museum provides a glorious journey through flight, since its dawn to what it may hold in the future.
Perhaps the most visited, and by far the most historically interesting, building would be the White House. If there ever was a building where more iconic and historically important events occurred, I have yet to find it. This building was the location where the constitution was ratified, where countless presidents have stayed, and numerous meals have taken place. A free tour of the ground floor is offered where tourists can see some of the rooms where the presidents have stayed in the past.
Nearby, the Library of Congress stands. It is filled with every book ever printed in the United States. It also holds many historical records that are freely available to the public. It truly is a great place to learn of the difficulties and tumultuous mountains that our great nation has surpassed and endured.
Washington D.C. is a place of great historical and cultural immersion. There are many free museums and activities for children of all ages. If there ever is a remarkable trip that every member of your family will enjoy, it will be a trip to Washington D.C.
